"Speak to my agent" used to be a celebrity thing. Something you said when you were too important to reply yourself. Now anyone can say it.
Which is funny. But it also says something about where work is heading.
I have seen this pattern too many times in finance transformation. A workflow is clean, logical, and works exactly as intended. Then it just sits there waiting. Someone needs to approve the journal. Someone owes feedback. A business rule update or a vendor response is pending.
The system may be fine. The constraint is still human.
AI agents do not replace finance teams. They can chase approvals, draft reminders, prepare variance explanations, find missing inputs, and pull context together before a review.
Technology can only take out friction. It cannot take over oversight, ownership, or accountability.
An agent can line up the numbers, the explanation, and the next action. The final decision still needs someone willing to own it.
